Windfall Data, a wealth intelligence company based in San Francisco, selected Baunfire to elevate and redefine their digital presence. The fintech company helps data-driven organizations engage affluent customers in both for-profit and nonprofit professional sectors; by understanding Windfall’s audience and business goals, the Baunfire team was able to modernize their reserved corporate site. The result is an approachable online platform that reflects their expertise and appeals to a diverse customer base.

A visual spotlight on people

With Windfall’s customers in established financial institutions, startups, and nonprofits, our goal was to develop a design that artfully brought together serious, playful, and human elements. One way we achieved this was by creating a photography treatment that visually highlights the subjects in the photographs. This treatment grayscales the background and brings attention to the most important part of the image: The people. On the homepage banner, we additionally added descriptive words about the spotlit subject to help immediately speak to the potential customer on the website.

Overlapping elements and texture add flow

Rather than rely upon a rigid grid, we opted to use an open layout with layered elements. Soft waves and stippled patterns balance the hard elements on the page, and the combination of these design decisions result in smooth transitions between sections. Our choice of abstract patterns and iconography similarly lends depth to pages and adds a premium feel to the brand.

Color blocks sprinkle delight

We incorporated Windfall’s brand colors into scattered teal and orange color blocks across the site. These splashes of color are bold enough to draw attention and add buoyancy without being overly whimsical.

Clean, friendly fonts for visual appeal

We selected a clean sans-serif font that was slightly rounded and chose to present some subheaders vertically — an unexpected way to both add flair and divide content. Bold font weights and larger headings accentuate important information in conjunction with the visual elements.

Mobile design for a savvy audience

Users today browse the web on devices of varying sizes; with this multi-device audience in mind, we made sure the new Windfall website works seamlessly across all of them.
