Tokyo-based multinational Ricoh has been driving innovation for over 80 years, touching everything from industrial systems to digital cameras. We helped create a new digital presence for their Silicon Valley division focused on innovation in the workplace—Ricoh STA. Through a collaborative process, we were able to develop a refreshing web presence to help customers understand how Ricoh STA's innovative platform blends video and sensory data to manage a facility’s safety and productivity.

A friendly information hub for complex technology

A core focus of the project was to visualize abstract technology in an understandable and warm way. As part of this, we developed an animated introduction video that utilizes the same playful illustrations found across the site—these stroke-based drawings, combined with open layouts, gentle shapes, and bright colors are instrumental in dynamically guiding users to key information.

Adding a playful touch to serious technology

Steering clear of a traditionaly cold “corporate” feel, we decided to make use of lively elements on all pages. Overlapping treatments and microinteractions like color-changing buttons create delight on pages that would otherwise be static. We also used a fixed sub-navigation on the primary product page to help streamline content and create a user-driven experience.

Tasteful use of bold colors

Blue and peach “crayola” colors are both lighthearted and energetic, while careful spacing and plenty of white prevents these accent colors from becoming overwhelming.

Modern typefaces

Sophisticated sans-serif typefaces keep the site easy on the eyes and aligned with its inviting tone; the clean lines of these fonts in varied weights call attention to information in different places throughout the site.
