With Google's expansion into San José, their vision is to work together with locals to imagine a part of downtown — one that draws from the City's culturally-rich history, vibrant personality, and innovative spirit. To do this, Google listened first to develop a mixed-use plan that understood community needs and priorities.

In collaboration with Google, Baunfire developed a brand identity and digital presence that took inspiration from the diverse places and spaces that make San José great, from iconic architecture to local artwork. As Google's Downtown West plan comes to life, Baunfire continues to design impactful touchpoints that represent the collective DNA of San José.

People-first design

Our approach was to put the audience at the focus of every design decision. From site architecture, to page layout, to interactions, each element of the website was designed to be helpful, clear, and user-friendly.

By San José, for San José

For Google, it was essential to build an identity that was authentic to San José's diverse culture. To further amplify the City's creative voice, we collaborated with local photographers and illustrators to help shape the visual language.

Local inspiration

We developed a color palette that drew inspiration from familiar landmarks and hidden gems, including vibrant murals, historic San José buildings, and modern architecture.

A "work-in-progress" mindset

We paired Google's corporate font with a handwritten script to demonstrate a blueprint-like, constantly evolving look and feel, in-line with the approach of the Downtown West mixed-use plan.

Mobile in mind

With mobile visitors in mind, we designed a website that provided an equally engaging and intuitive experience for users on-the-go.
